""Arctic Circle and Beyond""

Here we are are on our way to the Artic Circle which is Latitude 66 degrees 35' north. We went further North than anyone in our family and is the most northern road in Canada. It was 455 miles one way from Dawson, YK, all of it on a dirt road. On the way we saw a moose with a full rack of antlers. A lot of the road was muddy, so much so that in some places we put the truck in 4-wheel drive. Just look at our truck. When we got there we took pictures of us touching the Artic Ocean. This beautiful Igloo Church was made by the people of the town in one year. The First Nation Natives live here and are just wonderful people. We stayed at a B & B run by dog sled racers overnight and it was the longest day of the year. That was June 21 where the sun shines 24 hours a day. We drove down the mountain the next day and saw a ptarmigan bird, its like a chicken, but lives in the wild. We crossed the Yukon and the Klondike River by a ferry Crossing with our Trailer and Truck, it was so neat to think we could be on a ferry with so much weight and not sink. We went on what is known as "Top of the World" where you can see 5 to 7 tops of mountain ranges. What a sight !!!! We were traveling from there to Tok, Alaska. The roads were like major Perma frost heaves. The road was so up and down I thought I was getting car (truck sick). We visited the town of Chicken on the way. It was called Chicken because the miners couldn't spell Ptarmigan. In June we were at Kenncott Copper mines 55 miles from the nearest paved road. It was rainy and cold. We loved this old mine because it was so old and looked like time forgot about it. To this day mines in the area still gets some copper out . On the 20th of June we went to Valdez, this is the place where a major oil spill was heard around the world. It was all cleaned up and no signs of it are seen. We stayed on a small boat canal and many boats passed our trailer so close they said hello or waved to us. From our trailer we could also see beautiful Glaciers. We even saw Eagles and some otters right out our window. On June 26th we were in Whittier, where the Portage glacier is located. There were beautiful ice bergs calving right in front of us. Waterfalls were every where. We moved on to Seward where many Cruise ships come in and the town fills up for the day. We stayed in a town called Soldotna, for a week, where Sam went combat fishing, that's where men and women line up almost side by side and cast their lines in the river, to watch its almost put to music because they seem to do it in rhythm. We were still there of the 4th of July but drove over to a town called Kenai, to watch a home town parade. Almost anything and everything is in this parade, see the train and a motorcycle right in front of me? On July 7th we moved our trailer down to Deep Creek park, near Ninilchik, right on the ocean. We backed our trailer to view the ocean and tried to see the 5 volcano's across the sound, but because of Alaskan fires the smoke was too thick to take pictures. The next day we went and got our Halibut fishing license and chartered a fishing boat to take us fishing for halibut. A huge tractor pulled our boat out to the ocean . Sam and I caught our Halibut. I caught a 50 pounder and a 35. Sam got a 40 and a 35 pounder. They are easy to catch but a bugger to hall in. Here is a picture of us and our catch.

  1. I know you said your truck was muddy but I hadn't imagined anything like what your picture showed. I loved the bald eagle, and the picture with all your fish.
